Dr. Carrion received his medical degree from the University of Cuenca in Ecuador, where he graduated with honors. He completed his residency in Internal Medicine at the University of Miami – Jackson Memorial Hospital and was selected as Chief Medical Resident and given an academic title of Affiliated Assistant Professor of Medicine. Subsequently, he completed subspecialty training in Gastroenterology and Transplant Hepatology at the same institutions and served as Chief Fellow in Hepatology. Dr. Carrion was inducted into the Alpha-Omega-Alpha Honor Medical Society and he has multiple peer-reviewed publications in top-specialty journal such as the American Journal of Gastroenterology, Clinical Gastroenterology and Hepatology, Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, Clinics in Liver Disease, and Liver Transplantation. He has also authored seven book chapters with world-renowned authorities in the field of liver disease, including one in the most important textbook in Gastroenterology and Hepatology (Sleisenger and Fordtran’s Gastrointestinal and Liver Disease, 10th Ed). He has also presented his work at major international meetings including DDW, ACG, AASLD, and EASL. Dr. Carrion joined the department of Internal Medicine at Texas Tech University Paul L. Foster School of Medicine, where he currently serves as an Assistant Professor of Medicine and Director of Hepatology.
