Dr. Roberta Romero practices as a nurse practitioner for the Gastroenterology Division at Texas Tech University Health Science Center El Paso, Texas, since 2009. Her clinical experience includes administering a Gastroenterology and Hepatology Clinic. She is board certified through the American Association of Nurse Practitioners (AANP). She also supports education needs and faculty necessities for Paul Foster School of Medicine, El Paso, Texas, where she instructs first year medical students, as well as fellows in the gastroenterology fellowship program. Dr. Romero is avidly involved with research at TTUHSC. She is currently sub investigator assisting the research teams in the Gastroenterology Division in the clinical application of GERD, constipation dysmotility disorders, chronic constipation, gastroparesis, and the epidemiology of irritable bowel syndrome. Currently she serves as a sub-investigator on over 21 clinical trials that include dysmotility, ulcer prevention and treatment, gastro-esophageal reflux disease, irritable bowel syndrome, chronic constipation, and new non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs. She was co-author and published and presented abstracts in 2013 and 2014 at both national and international meetings. Her research on Hepatitis C Effects of Health Insurance Among Patients on Hepatitis C Treatment Along the Texas-Mexico Border was accepted for publication to Gastroenterology Nursing and is in press for placement in issue 39(6) (Nov/Dec) of 2016. Dr. Roberta Romero received her Bachelors of Science in Nursing (BSN) from the University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP) in 1997. Her nursing experience includes, medical surgical, emergency room nursing, and perioperative services, endoscopy nursing. She further pursued a Master's of Science in Nursing (MSN) in Administration in 2005 from UTEP as well, and completed a Post Master's Family Nurse Practitioner Certificate program from Texas Tech University Health Science Center in Lubbock, Texas in 2009. She completed the Doctor of Nursing Practice at Texas Tech University Lubbock, Texas May 10, 2014. She founded and co-facilitates a hepatitis C support group monthly in El Paso for patients and family members that have hepatitis C and are undergoing treatment or are thinking of undergoing treatment. She was invited and is a member of a National HCV Advisory committee and was requested to speak nationally on the disease awareness and prevention and treatment of Hepatitis C. Professional and Honorary Societies that Dr. Romero belongs to include: Sigma Theta Tau National Nursing Honor Society (STT), where she has served on the governing board in the past. American Association of Nurse Practitioners (AANP), American Nurses Association (ANA), Texas Nurse’s Association (TNA), Society of Gastroenterology Nurses Association (SGNA), American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (ASGE), and American College of Gastroenterology (ACG).
